Hair-raising humour
In the largest regional newspaper Sydsvenskan, the most appalling and hair-raising article was published the other day under the heading “Humbug and trickery, Danes!”. The article lists Danish food items and hatefully describing each one:
“Overrated beer tasting of un-popped popcorn. Antibiotic stuffed bacon from pigs raised under miserable circumstances. Danish Feta cheese, salty and fucking awful. Pork rims, feels like chewing on a deep-fried finger. Soft drinks guaranteed free from anything that isn’t artificial.” And so on.
The Swedish Denmark-hating journalist is calling mature Danish cheese compared to not-so-mature cheese for “Same shit, but older”. He also says that the Danes’ “margarine” Lurpak has a proper name – implying to the fact that “Lur/lura” in Swedish means “to deceive” or “to swindle”. He does not seem to know that Lurpak is first class butter and not “margarine”. It is insulting, to say the least, of a brand of butter that is exported to 60 countries.
The whole article is characterised by ludicrous hatred of everything Danish and is lacking any decency and politeness what-so-ever. But I know - the paper will claim that it is meant to be humorous satire and should not be taken seriously. They always say that when their journalists are going overboard in running Denmark and the Danes down. But I know my old neighbour well enough. She takes what’s in the paper as the truth. She will definitely not get the humour of Sydsvenskans Denmark-bashing article.
It is hard to belive that a basically decent newspaper like Sydsvenskan is allowing such garbage on its pages.

but you gotta admit that danish feta is arguably the most disgusting dairy product ever made!
remember that this is the cheese that urged the greeks to make feta a protected regional produce. i don't blame them: nobody would want to be associated to that crap.
